2019年4月13日唯一雌性斑鱉在蘇州動物園進行第五次人工授精失敗後死亡，此前從長沙動物園遷居到有雄性個體的蘇州動物園，以進行繁育，但過去的四次人工授精均失敗，專家稱取卵困難，其克隆（Cloning，意即基因複製，又譯「殖株」）技術不夠成熟。
