曾在新冠疫情期間擔任政府專家顧問的港大兒童及青少年科學系講座教授劉宇隆認為，市民在新冠期間嚴守隔離令及口罩令，兒童沒有接觸過呼吸系統致病源，導致他們免疫力低，指現時要「還免疫債」。

The strict health measures practiced by Hongkongers during Covid had resulted in children’s minimal exposure to respiratory pathogens and, thus, weaker immune systems, with children now having to repay the “immunity debt,” according to Lau Yu-lung, professor of pediatrics and adolescent medicine at the University of Hong Kong.
