一旦結石從膽囊掉入膽管，由於膽管的出口細小，容易讓膽汁無法順利排出，進而引發膽管炎或胰臟炎，臨床表現除了上腹痛外，也可能會出現黃疸與發燒，嚴重時會合併細菌感染造成敗血症。
