近年來，歐洲多國不時出現回收乳膠氣球的個案，當中涉及產品檢出過量的懷疑致癌物質亞硝胺及相關物質，未能符合歐盟相關的玩具安全規定。

The Consumer Council bought 35 samples of balloon products, with prices ranging from HK$0.3 to HK$19.9 per balloon, and discovered that over 90 percent of them contained different concentration levels of nitrosamine, while 13 of them exceeded the EU-mandated limit by about 1.1 to 6.8 times.
