其實世界各國的擔心也不無道理，在此之前以色列站治人物訪問聖殿山後，常常都會引發衝突，最近的一次是在2000年9月，當時前任以色列總理艾里爾·夏隆 （Ariel Sharon） 也到訪聖殿山，巴勒斯坦人把夏隆此行視為以色列將「佔領」聖殿山的前兆，導致後續巴勒斯坦展開了長達5年的「第二次巴勒斯坦大起義」（the second intifada）。
