1955年6月25日，由美國第七艦隊分隊司令萊思少將率領的多艘軍艦駛抵基隆港，包括萊思少將搭乘的護航航空母艦USS Badoeng Strait（CVE-116）、驅逐艦、潛艦，補給艦，運輸艦，旗艦，及加拿大重軀逐艦。

Roberts was sunk while defending a task force of vulnerable escort carriers against a much more powerful Japanese force. The plucky ship was later nicknamed “The Destroyer That Fought Like a Battleship.”
