為表揚香港運動員的貢獻及在大型運動會和比賽上為港爭光勇奪殊榮，香港政府於香港運動員基金下成立了精英運動員優秀表現嘉許計劃，宗旨是為退役運動員提供一次性現金獎勵，增強對他們退役後轉型發展的支援。
