海綿城市即是將城市建設得如海綿一樣,在適應環境變化和應對自然災害等方面,具有良好的「彈性」。在下雨時吸水、蓄水、滲水、淨水,需要時將蓄存的水「釋放」並加以利用。而鄭州市在2016年入選海綿城市建設省級試點,並開始在建設方面投入大量資源。

As Zhengzhou expanded, flood peaks increased by as much as 30 percent. But Zhengzhou has spent heavily on upgrading its drainage as part of the “sponge city” concept established in China in 2014, which looks to absorb and recycle large amounts of water.
