前政總中、東及西座均屬一級歷史建築，被納入為「保育中環」項目之一。政府早年的多份文件均指，日後將提供文物走廊、露天及有蓋廣場等公共休憩空間（見下），預計 2019 至 2020 年落成，開放予公眾使用，不過至今無下文。

In reaction to the plans on conserving Central, the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Revitalisation of Historic Buildings and Anitiquities Advisory Board, Bernard Chan, said he welcomed the extensive coverage devoted to heritage conservation and revitalisation in the latest policy address.
