然而在58年前的今日，就有一批受民族主義沖昏的真正暴民，因不滿政府職員撕去中華民國國旗而四出生事、掟玻璃樽和掟石破壞洩憤，觸發雙十暴動，事件演變成縱火搶掠，警方防暴隊先後以催淚彈、警棍及裝甲車鎮壓，最終由駐港英軍協助驅散暴徒，暴動釀成59死、384傷。
