因應新冠肺炎COVID-19（武漢肺炎）疫情，支付寶早前推出「健康碼」應用程式，讓市民自行申報健康情況，審核後就會出現二維碼（QR Code），外出時一掃就能證明健康狀況。然而據《紐約時報》報道，該系統不僅可以實時判斷某人是否具有傳染風險，還可與內地執法部門分享用戶的數據，惹來監控市民的質疑。

Citizens are particularly critical of a system called Health Code, which users can sign up for through Alipay or WeChat, that assigns individuals one of three colour codes based on their travel history, time spent in outbreak hotspots and exposure to potential carriers of the virus.
