鍾健平其後完成俗稱「踢保」的拒絕保釋手續後暫獲無條件釋放，在區內接受網媒TMHK記者訪問時，有4名非華裔男子靠近，其中最前的一名男子上前施襲，在場記者高呼自己傳媒身分，後方的3名男子稍有遲疑，但前方男子未有停止襲擊，鍾健平蹲下用手保護頭部，但頭部仍被擊中一次。
