擁有近二十四億用戶的facebook昨日宣布，計畫於未來六個月至十二個月內，推出名叫Libra（譯為天秤座，有指象徵平衡與公正）的新加密貨幣，讓其在全球的大量用戶可用Libra貨幣來作金融交易。這個數碼貨幣，由真實世界的資產作為儲備，來支持發行，包括銀行儲款和短期公債。
