社會福利署（社署）在計算同時領取贍養費的綜合社會保障援助（綜援‍）受助人可獲發的綜援金時，會扣減其可得的贍養費。他們如向社署證明已展開法律程序以追討贍養費欠款，可獲暫緩扣減綜援金。有社福機構指出，提供有關證明十分耗時，而該等受助人大部分是單親家長，一旦被拖欠贍養費便會即時陷入財政困難。

The Social Welfare Department (SWD), in calculating the amounts of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) payments payable to CSSA recipients who are concurrently receiving maintenance payments, makes a deduction of the maintenance payments they may receive. If the CSSA recipients can prove to SWD that they have commenced legal proceedings to recover the arrears of maintenance payments, the deduction of their CSSA payments may be suspended.
