海洋生物進食時會連同塑膠吞下，體內積存塑微粒，令塑膠進入食物鏈，造成海洋污染。「世界海洋日」前夕，環保組織世界自然基金會發表報告，提到每年有六十萬噸膠袋棄置地中海，等於每分鐘有33800個膠樽投入大海。
