蠟樣芽孢桿菌中毒通常由於烹調不當造成細菌孢子殘留在食物上,若不當冷藏,或在室溫擺放一段長時間後,孢子會發芽並產生毒素,常見於隔夜飯之中,故由蠟樣芽孢桿菌引致的食物中毒又稱「炒飯綜合症」,患者出現嚴重嘔吐、腹痛、腹瀉等症狀。
