據《Live Science》與英國《都市報》報導，這次科學家發現的「新器官」叫做「間質」(Interstitium)，間質在過去只被視為是種結締組織，但這次科學家認為，間質具有系統性，分布在皮膚表皮下方、消化道、肺、血管、肌肉、泌尿系統等器官周圍。
