美國《地球物理研究通訊》（GRL）期刊四日發表的最新研究顯示，根據美國國家航太總署（NASA）衛星觀測，自二○○五年以來，南極上空的臭氧層消耗率減少約二十％，意味著破洞正逐漸縮小。此為科學界首度證實，臭氧層修復是因為氟氯碳化物（CFCs）的禁用奏效。
