林鄭回應稱，根據本港一向的法律原則，刑事法例不應設有追溯期，認為毋須將《國歌法》再複雜化，強調國歌是國家象徵一部份，尊重歌國是公民應有責任，不應利用本地立法未完成的空隙時間嘗試作出不尊重國歌的行為。
