近年日本秋刀魚漁穫急降，2017年只有77,169噸，較前一年大減30%，也是1948年有紀錄以來第二低。有日本漁業人士認為，秋刀魚漁穫受影響原因之一，是台灣與中國大陸漁船在日本經濟海域外過度捕撈。
