美國將於當地時間周一（21日）早上（本港時間22日凌晨約1時）迎來99年來首次橫跨東西兩岸的日全食，多個州份的民眾可目擊這個天文現象。美國太空總署（NASA）將出動兩架噴射機監察日全食過程，和蒐集日冕數據，科學家亦會研究日食對農作物與動物的影響。

A total solar eclipse will block out the sun across the U.S. on Aug. 21 in a major event that’s been dubbed the “Great American Eclipse” — but it won’t be the first or last time the country will see the astronomical phenomenon. To witness the next total solar eclipse in the U.S., though, Americans will have to wait another seven years.
