為了實踐「乾淨的奧運」理想，WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency，世界反禁藥組織) 會替奧運有望奪牌的選手主動列名造冊，並製作生物護照，在奧運前進行例行性檢查，主要包括田徑、游泳與舉重等運動項目，另一種則是賽外抽檢，則是自選手村開放後開始進行，但抽檢的比例每個項目不同。
