美國有專家指出，當伊斯蘭國等組織處境愈艱難，便愈需要依賴支持組織的業餘人士採取自願行動，恐怕日後獨狼式襲擊只會有增無減，亦有人警告隨着伊斯蘭國逐漸滲透印尼等亞洲國家，反恐專家有必要調整策略，否則後果不堪設想。
