花膠滋補養顏，備受追捧，故墨西哥的石首魚製成的花膠需求大，卻導致當地非法捕撈石首魚情況嚴重，間接令石首魚為鄰的「微笑海豚」墨西哥小頭鼠海豚也遭殃，瀕臨絕種，專家預料牠們可能於明年完全消失。

The totoaba, which is itself highly endangered, is caught for its swim bladders which are smuggled to China for sale on the black market. Undercover investigators found the swim bladders, called maws, for sale in Shantou in Guandong province, at an average price of $20,000 per kilogram.
