麒麟每年翻越孟公屋村和大水坑村互拜，也在坑口的18條村內一直舞下去，2014年西貢坑口客家舞麒麟更加在2014年被列入國家級非物質文化遺產，香港歷史文化研究會副會長葉德平解釋舞麒麟之所以能在坑口能承傳幾百年，是因為客家人對麒麟有近乎精神信仰的崇拜，無論婚嫁祭祖或是新屋入伙，都會舞麒麟助慶及圖吉祥之意，加上客家族群觀念強，大家師出同門，套路大概固定下來，舞麒麟便這樣世代相傳下去。
