朝鮮開城工業園區２００５年投入運營，是迄今碩果僅存的韓朝經濟合作項目。目前，園區內共有約５.３萬名朝鮮工人受雇於１２４家韓國企業，其中多為中小企業。２０１３年，開城工業園區一度因朝鮮半島局勢緊張而被迫關閉，後經朝韓協商恢復運營。
