香港大學醫學院微生物學系表示，已鑑別出最近侵襲香港及全球的非典型肺炎病毒，是「冠狀病毒」，故此，該種嚴重急性呼吸道病症應稱為「冠病毒肺炎」。

Chief of Virology Malik Peiris and department head Kwok-yung Yuen say now that they have identified the source, they no longer want to refer to the illness as “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome”. Instead, they call it Coronavirus Pneumonia.
