現時全球未有一個公認百分百準確的沙士快速測試，港大微生物學系副教授胡釗逸表示，進行沙士病毒聚合酶鏈測試的方法非常複雜，準確度會視乎抽取樣本的方法及時間而定，在病人病發的不同時間抽取樣本也可能影響結果，如適當時間抽取鼻咽分泌物的測試，準備度可達八至九成。
