此前，「學民思潮」及學聯在前晚罷課集會後，煽動包括學生在內的示威者暴力衝擊特區政府總部，令最少34人，包括15名警務人員和政總職員及保安受傷，其中一名警員更被示威者的雨傘戳傷，傷口長達10厘米。由前晚至昨日中午，警方以涉嫌強行進入政府建築物，公共地方擾亂公眾秩序，襲警及普通襲擊等罪名拘捕了13名年齡介乎16歲至35歲的暴力示威者，同日下午1時再拘捕61名通宵「佔領」政總的示威者，即最少74人被捕。警方強烈譴責示威者的暴力行為。社會各界憂慮「佔中」不可能和平。

Officials say 41 people, including police officers, have been injured since protests began and 78 arrested for offences including forcible entry into government premises, unlawful assembly and obstructing police.
