中共十五大確立「鄧小平理論」為黨的指導思想，中共十六大把「三個代表」重要思想寫入黨章，十七大將「科學發展觀」寫入黨章，十八大把生態文明建設同經濟建設、政治建設、文化建設、社會建設一道，納入中國特色社會主義事業總體布局。
