免疫系統是人體防禦疾病的系統，當它不能正常運作時，有可能是因為不同疾病或嚴重營養不良而令免疫力變差，又或者因為基因變異而出現免疫缺陷。因基因變異而導致的原發性免疫功能缺陷病屬罕有病，估計香港每年約有10至15名嬰兒患病，當中以男嬰居多。
