根據港交所介紹，收市競價的目的，是讓投資者有更多機會完成交易，以及滿足投資者以股份收市價執行交易的要求；而在收市後的10分鐘，投資者可以輸入競價盤或競價限價盤，並以配對到最多成交的價格收市，而實際收市時間由系統隨機決定，首階段的競價將會適用恒生綜合大型股及中型股指數的成份股、AH股及所有ETF，但不包括債務證券、衍生權證及牛熊證。
