The eurozone, officially called the euro area, is a monetary union of 19 European Union (EU) member states that have adopted the euro (€) as their common currency and sole legal tender.

Euro area

The euro area comprises the countries which adopted the euro as their currency in Stage Three of Economic and Monetary Union. As of 1 January 2015, this includes 19 countries with around 335 million citizens: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
