2008年11月，當金融海嘯剛發生之際，在巴西召開的G20財長會議的聲明，促各國抵抗無論是貿易還是投資上的保護主義壓力，並重申支持多哈談判達成協議。2009年、2011年的財長聲明重點放在金融穩定及金融改革，亦未有提保護主義問題。

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Gregory So Kam- leung revealed yesterday that a variety of promotion strategies will replace the HK$250 million fund. It was set up in 2009 to counter some of the effects of the financial tsunami by promoting Hong Kong as “the events capital of Asia” only to be mauled by the director of audit three years ago.
