運輸署自2011年推出應用程式「香港乘車易」，至今累積約160萬人次下載，惟一直只有較繁複的普通模式。署方花約一年時間研發長者模式。高級工程師王偉光說，設計時曾到多間長者中心向長者收集意見，長者模式介面簡單，採用長者較受落的藍色和綠色，字型也較粗大，方便閱讀。
