美國維吾爾協會（Uyghur American Association）主席尤沙哈珊（Ilshat Hassan）批評，北京當局透過名為「雙語教育」的政策，進行「文化滅絕」（cultural genocide）的舉動，根除「世界上最古老的突厥語言之一」，國際社會絕不能容許中國破壞擁有幾千年歷史、美麗的維吾爾語言和文化。
