我覺得孟子的重點在於後面的「動心忍性，增益其所不能。」，這麼說吧，如果逆境處久了、麻痺了，覺得反正逆境是不可違逆的(宿命論)，就逆來順受吧，那麼不見得會有動心忍性增益其所不能這回事；可是如果個性是積極的，就會在逆境中有所體悟、有所修煉，所以才能夠動心忍性增益其所不能。
