熊將軍還記得，隨陸軍車隊到達新界粉嶺時，有一名香港市民站在雨中，抬著一個大匾，上書「威武文明之師」的字樣，送給駐港部隊。還有新界多位市民湧上來給官兵戴花環，花環上全是雨水，讓官兵感受到了香港同胞的熱情和親切。
