下星期五是耶穌受難節。根據《聖經》記載,當時羅馬帝國駐猶太的總督比拉多(基督教:彼拉多)在猶太人逾越節前夕釋放一位死囚。他給群眾兩個選擇,一位是耶穌,另一位是巴辣巴(基督教:巴拉巴)。群眾選擇釋放巴辣巴,耶穌就死在十字架上。
