在強積金市場上，保證基金可分兩種：一是硬性保證基金，二是軟性保證基金。兩者的差異主要是保證條款要求的不同。硬性保證基金一般沒有太多的保證條款，使強積金計劃成員容易享有保證回報。軟性保證基金則附帶不同的保證條款。如未能符合這些保證條款而從有關保證基金中提取利益，那麽就不能取得保證回報。
